Day 01 : Delhi
Arrive Delhi International airport meet & greet transfer to prebooked hotel. Later proceed to visit Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Raj Ghat and Chandni Chowk in Old Delhi. Have lunch at a nice restaurant and before setting out on a guided tour to the interesting attractions located in New Delhi, India. See the Parliament House, India Gate, Laxmi Narayan Temple, Lotus temple and the Qutub Minar.Overnight stay at Hotel.
Day 02 : Delhi - Khajuraho (By Flight)
After breakfast transfer to domestic airport to board the flight for Khajuraho. Arrive Khajuraho check in at Hotel. After lunch proceed to sightseeing tour of Khajuraho. Overnight stay at Hotel.
Day 03 : Khajuraho
After breakfast at hotel proceed to visit 1000 years old Chandela's Temple. The temples are superb examples of Indo-Aryan architecture and depict images of gods and goddesses, warriors and musicians, real and mythological animals and in great detail - women and sex. Overnight stay at hotel.
Day 04 : Khajuraho - Jhansi - Agra
After breakfast drive to Jhansi railway station enroute visit Orchha. Later drive to Jhansi railway station to board train for Agra. Arrive Agra check in at hotel for overnight stay.
Day 05 : Agra - Delhi
Early morning visit world famous "Taj Mahal" in sunrise built by the Moghul Emperor Shahjehan in 1630 in memory of his loving queen Mumtaz Mahal. Come back at hotel for breakfast. Later visit the Agra Fort containing the Pearl Mosque and the Hall of Public and Private Audience.Visit Itmad-up-Daula's tomb, built by Noorjehan in memory of her father. Later drive Delhi for overnight stay.
Day 06 : Delhi
After breakfast proceed to full day sightseeing tour covering New Delhi & Old Delhi. Visit Raj Ghat and Shanti Vana - the cremation sites of Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru, Jama Masjid and drive past Red Fort and Chandni Chowk. Afternoon visit Qutub Minar built by Qutub-ud-Din Aibek in 1199, Humayun's Tomb, India Gate (War Memorial Arch ), Lakshminarayan Temple - a modern Hindu Temple. Also drive past President's House, Parliament House, Government Secretariat Buildings and Connaught Place shopping centre. Later transfer to airport to board flight for your onward destination.
Khajuraho Travel Information:
In the temple architecture of India, the Khajuraho complex remains unique. One thousand years ago, under the generous and artistic patronage of the Chandela Rajput kings of Central India, 85 temples, magnificent in form and richly carved, came up on one site, near the village of Khajuraho.
The creators of Khajuraho claimed descent from the moon. The legend that describes the origin of this great dynasty is a fascinating one: Hemavati, the beautiful young daughter of a Brahmin priest was seduced by the moon god while bathing in the Rati one evening. The child born of this union between a mortal and a god was a son, Chandravarman.
Harassed by society, the unwed mother sought refuge in the dense forest of Central India where she was both mother and guru to her young son. The boy grew up to found the great Chandela dynasty. When he was established as a ruler, he had a dream-visitation from his mother, who implored him to build temples that would reveal human passions, and in doing so bring about a realization of the emptiness of human desire. Chandravarman began the construction of the first of the temples, successive rulers added to the fast growing complex.
Why did the Chandelas choose Khajuraho or Khajirvahila - garden of dates, as it was known then - as the site for their stupendous creations? Even in those days it was no more than a small village. It is possible given the eclectic patronage of the Chandelas and the wide variety of beliefs represented in the temples, that they had the concept of forming a seat of religion and learning at Khajuraho. It is possible that the Chandelas were also believers in the powers of Tantrism; the cult which believes that the gratification of earthly desires is a step closer to the attainment of the infinite. It is certain however, that the temples represent the expression of a highly matured civilization.
